Entitled “How can we work together to accelerate regenerative agriculture through collaborative action, from farms to industry and public policy?”, the conference brought together representatives from different parts of the value chain to discuss the operational and economic levers for this transition.
A challenge of collective structuring
While the principles of regenerative agriculture — improving soil health, diversifying crop rotations, reducing inputs and capturing carbon — are now widely recognized, scaling them up still presents several challenges.
The speakers emphasized that scaling up requires closer coordination between farmers, cooperatives, processors and industrial customers. Multi-year visibility, economic recognition of the efforts undertaken, and contractual frameworks appear to be essential conditions for securing agricultural transitions.
With this in mind, the Empreinte programme, led by Saipol and Lesieur, aims to connect upstream commitments with downstream expectations by integrating criteria related to farming practices and their environmental impact.
A joint roadmap for 2027–2030
Partners for the past three years in sourcing rapeseed and sunflower oils produced using regenerative farming practices, Saipol and PepsiCo are now strengthening their collaboration.
The two companies share climate trajectories aligned with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The Avril Group, of which Saipol is a subsidiary, aims to reduce its Scope 3 emissions by 30% by 2030 (2019 baseline). For its part, PepsiCo has committed to reducing its Scope 3 FLAG emissions by 30% by 2030.
For the 2027–2030 period, the shared ambition is clear:
- reach up to 60% of the volumes supplied to PepsiCo through the Empreinte programme;
- reduce their carbon intensity by 30%.
The partnership will also strengthen carbon measurement through the use of primary data collected from farmers and the integration of soil carbon storage, in accordance with the recommendations of the GHG Protocol.
Beyond the quantified targets, the challenge is to establish a robust framework based on traceability, methodological rigor and cooperation across the value chains.
