Since 2018, Saipol has been conducting trials on camelina as an intercrop, with the aim of meeting the growing demand for sustainable aviation fuels, which are essential for the decarbonization of the aviation sector.
The objective of this approach is clear: identify oilseed species that can be effectively grown between two main crops, completing their cycle within a short period. Camelina has emerged as one of the most promising species. However, its success depends on technical adjustments, specific cultivation practices and adaptation to local soil and climatic conditions.
With this in mind, in 2024, 7 farmers across 5 departments implemented this intercrop in a variety of settings. Their objective: to experiment, refine cropping practices and avoid potential pitfalls, in order to make camelina a solution for the future.
