During the night of September 3 to 4, at around 2:00 a.m., Saipol teams called on the support of the Sète Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (SDIS34) to provide additional assistance alongside the site’s fire suppression systems.
A fire that was quickly brought under control was detected in a silo storing oilseed meal* that was not in operation and was being emptied for cleaning. SDIS34 had been informed in advance about the operation underway.
The entire fire prevention and safety system functioned as intended.
There were no injuries, no pollution, and no material damage.
On the morning of Wednesday, September 4, the Hérault Prefecture visited the site together with SDIS and DREAL to assess the incident that occurred during the night.
* Oilseed meal consists of protein-rich plant material remaining after oil is extracted from rapeseed. It is used as animal feed.
